Susan Hamilton, M.S., LLP

Susie has been with IEG since 2014, and still believes it is the greatest job in the history of the world. She works from an interpersonal, feminist, humanistic-existential, and psychodynamic perspective, with an emphasis on co-creating safe, non-judgmental spaces in which pain can be both fully validated and transformed into strength. Susie especially enjoys and excels at witnessing and healing complex intergenerational trauma, reclaiming and nurturing one's relationship with Spirit, and translating complicated concepts using personalized, relatable metaphors. In addition, she completed EMDR training in 2020, and is able to offer EMDR both virtually and in person.


Susie's personal identities include pansexual, polyamorous, a widow, adult trauma survivor, pagan/witch/recovering Catholic, as well as a gestational, chosen, and bonus parent to queer, trans, and neurodivergent children. She believes that her own therapy journey is essential to ethical practice as a therapist, because we can't truly support mental health recovery and personal evolution if we aren't invested in our own growth. She has a special interest in working with clients who may not feel that their mental health is supported by society and/or have multiple identities, particularly pregnant people, parents, trauma survivors, and the queer community.


Prior to joining IEG, she worked at the University of Michigan for over 10 years, coordinating research projects and providing case management to pregnant people and new parents coping with depression, anxiety, and complex trauma, while balancing parenting and healthy self-care. She has licensure from the State of Michigan to practice counseling with supervision, and accepts the following insurance plans: Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Blue Care Network, CHAMPS Medicaid (Blue Cross Complete, Meridian, McLaren), McLaren Commerical, Molina Marketplace and Medicaid, and Priority Health Commercial and Medicaid, as well as private pay on a sliding scale.
