Skylar (He/Him or They/Them) is a white, queer, transmasculine, kinky, ENM, neurodiverse, able-bodied, and non-religious human. Through these privileged and marginalized roles he has come to work on healing himself and others from systemic elements that traumatize him, his communities, and his neighbors.
To do so he is consistently reading, training, sharing with and learning from others regarding decolonizing, anti-racism, mad liberation, queer theory, and Black feminism. He uses this learning in combination with eclectic therapeutic approaches such as internal family systems, art therapy, somatic experiencing, polyvagal theory, sensorimotor, hakomi, and mindfulness. He recognizes western settler science is often biased towards creating “functional” well-behaved citizens according to a base model of white, cis, straight, men. As such, he is invested in seeking knowledge from marginalized voices and reads all science with careful consideration. Who is funding the research? Who is participating? Who’s voice gets priority and why?

They view themselves as a supporter of others journeys and not as a prescriptive force. Meaning that you tell them what is important to you and they will offer directions that you may take. Autonomy is an incredible basis for healing trauma. They resist coercive or involuntary “care”: functionally the police are far behind a list of non-carceral resources. Instead, they offer a space to develop compassion and respect for your body’s inherent wisdom. Where you may recognize your thoughts, behaviors, and emotions as appropriate responses to complex and systemic trauma while making new choices on how you want to foster compassion and safety for yourself.

Sessions with him will look different from standard talk therapy. He often invites people to start with a grounding exercise to settle into a session and notice what direction they want to go in. During the session, he may invite you to breathe, make noise, make/appreciate art, or move your body in ways that can feel unfamiliar or silly. You may have been encouraged all your life to wrangle your body into stillness. Sessions will go at your pace of comfort unfurling that stillness. Some sessions you may be talking more, others may be almost entirely somatic.

Skylar graduated from the University of Michigan in Dec 2023 with a Master in Social Work. He completed his graduate degree internship at TheraBee Psychology LLC where he provided therapy from Jan 2023 to Dec 2023.

He began providing therapy as a LLMSW in Jan 2024.

He has been trained in crisis response and Integrative Embodied Trauma Therapy.

He enjoys working with relationships (monogamous, kinky, non-monogamous), adolescents, young adults, and middle-aged adults regarding complex, intergenerational, and systemic trauma. He has experience helping others find, define, and process emotions, facilitating intimacy in personal relationships, exploring consent, and riding waves of nervous system threat responses (fight, flight, flop, fawn).

Skylar has experience providing letters of support for gender affirming surgeries in a timely manner. He views letters as a barrier to care for transgender and gender diverse people and aims to make letter writing a quick collaborative process to minimize this barrier.

They are also a human dude who enjoys cats, kayaking, yoga, making art, books, games (video and tabletop), learning about bugs/plants, and metalcore.

If that all sounds lovely to you, then they would be gratified to witness your journey. He offers a free thirty minute video consultation so that you are able to experience him and allow space for an informed decision on who you want to work with for your therapy.

Thank you for taking the time to read this bio in its entirety and for taking a step to seek support for your life. There is never an inappropriate time to be in therapy. Wishing you luck in finding your best healing match!"
