What is psychological testing?

-
Psychological testing examines an individual’s thought, behavior, and learning processes to provide a diagnosis and treatment options. Assessment can help people with understanding specific life challenges or personal strengths. It is common for people to seek evaluation before beginning medications with a medical professional or when determining eligibility for accommodations at work or school for conditions that affect their cognitive functioning, mood, and/or social functioning.
What does the assessment or testing process look like?

-
Our assessment process begins with a free 15 minute virtual consultation to answer any questions you might have and to accommodate any specific needs you might have
-
Results can be distributed to the individuals or groups of your choosing by completing a release of information form with their contact information.

How do I prepare for my assessment?

-
It can help to have a list of your main concerns and examples of how they show up in your daily life at school, work, and home before the intake appointment. This is done virtually and takes approximately 1.5 hours. You’ll be asked questions about your childhood, medical history, psychiatric history, educational history, and other areas of your life that are relevant. Since an accurate developmental history is needed, please ask a parent or previous guardian for clarification if you are unsure about any of the answers.
-
The evaluating clinician might ask for a release of information to clarify questions with these individuals. You will need to fill out a release of information form for any healthcare practitioners (e.g., primary care physician, surgeon, current/past therapist) who can offer helpful information. Depending on what is being evaluated, you may be asked to bring in paperwork or documents such as report cards, remarks from teachers/employers, previous psychiatric hospitalizations, or previous psychological evaluations, etc.
-
When scheduling a 3-4 hour in-person testing appointment, it is recommended that you obtain a full night’s sleep beforehand and dress comfortably. You’ll be asked to perform a variety of tasks or solve problems that help the clinician with the diagnostic process. You may bring a water bottle and you can eat snacks or meals during a break. It is also recommended that you request time off for the entirety of the school or workday.

What are the ages for an assessment?

-
We provide assessments for individuals over the age of 6 years old.

What is the cost of a psychological assessment?
-
The assessment cost is determined by the type of assessment, the complexity of the evaluation, and what insurance can cover. Individuals can expect a range between $500 to $2500. For those who pay with cash, we provide fee schedules and payment options.
-
We also submit insurance claims. The majority of assessments provided can be covered by insurance after a deductible is met. The cost of services is typically determined by insurance providers if you choose to file through them. Your insurance plan will specify how much you are responsible for (e.g., deductible, copay. Coinsurance) after services have been rendered. Payment plans will be considered on a case-by-case basis for any cost not covered by insurance.
