About The Event

This workshop will build on the introductory information provided in Clinical practice with individuals in the kink and BDSM community: An Introduction. This second workshop will provide participants with additional opportunities for critical self-reflection and provide specific tools to use with clients who are intentionally exploring/engaging in kink/BDSM. Learning objectives will focus on three different types of learning. The workshop will start with a deeper dive into biases/assumptions about “taboo” topics within BDSM by viewing and discussing videos and community member’s experiences. Following reflective group discussion, we will explore consent and negotiation from a kink/BDSM lens and engage in an exercise to explore the depth of self-awareness and communication necessary for active informed consent. The workshop will conclude with an opportunity to apply new knowledge and language through role plays that reflect their current practice environment. At the end of the workshop participants will be asked to reflect on their learning and make commitments to changes within their clinical practice. The workshop’s goal is to further expand participant’s knowledge, awareness, and applicable skills to aid them in creating a safer space for their diverse clients

Facilitated by Syre Saniyah, Ph.D, LP & Fitz (S. M. Fitzgerald), LMSW, CST
